Edgar B. Hopkins, Jr., 92, of Suffield, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2013. Edgar accepted Christ as an adult and from that day forward, he lived his life for the Lord. Over the years, he belonged to several churches and served as a trustee, greeter, deacon, elder, Sunday School Superintendent, youth leader, and lay minister. He witnessed to countless people whenever he had the opportunity.
"If you want to meet my Dad, ask Jesus into your heart and live for Jesus."
Edgar served in the U.S. Navy and retired from General Tire after 30 years of employment. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteering his time at community events. He was a member of Tallmadge Alliance Church. He will always be remembered for his terrific sense of humor and his strong sense of family.
Edgar will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Yvonne; daughter, Nicole; sons, Mitchell, Bruce, and Brent; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 2 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Tallmadge Alliance Church, 1155 East Ave., Tallmadge, with Pastor Zach Reeves officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
