Edgar Eugene Holcomb, 87, of Akron, Ohio, was born on January 4, 1932, in Muskogee, OK, and died peacefully on August 27, 2019, surrounded by loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mabel Holcomb; brothers, Charles, Leonard and James Holcomb; and sisters, Frances Burgess and Lillie Barlow.
Edgar leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Patricia (Stermer Lowe) Holcomb of Akron, OH; son, James (Becky) Holcomb; daughters, Debra Holcomb and Beverly (Jeffrey) Hall; grandchildren, Michael (Catherine) Myrick and Melissa Miranda; Jordan, Shannon, and Aaron Hall; and great-grandchildren, Xavier and Veronica Myrick.
As dear to him as his first family, he also leaves behind many loved ones of his second marriage: children, Jennifer (Greg) Carlile, Diane (Lance) Cain, Kevin (Tina) Lowe, Sarah (Sasa) Mijalkovic, Brian (Carrie) Lowe, and Robin (Kevin) Mutchie; grandchildren, Sydney and Garrett Carlile; Ryan (Vanessa), Alex, Rachel, and Jason Cain; Jacob and Julia Lowe; Annabella and Mateja Mijalkovic; Eian and Zander Lowe; and Allison, Kaitlin, and Madelyn Mutchie.
Although Ed had served in the Air Force, played Hawaiian steel guitar as a professional musician, and worked for B.F. Goodrich in Avon for 23 years, his passion and true calling was his work for the Lord as a gospel preacher. He served churches of Christ in northeast Ohio for almost 50 years: the North Ridgeville congregation, the Southeast congregation in Akron and Mogadore, and the Silver Park congregation in Alliance. Retirement brought him back to the Southeast congregation where he had met his wife and where his memory will continue to be an influence for years to come. Ed's passing is mourned by family and countless friends and brethren in Christ whose course is not yet finished, but his victory in death is celebrated both here and in Heaven. The family is grateful to the Summa Palliative Care team whose gentle attention eased Ed's final steps into eternal life. To God be the glory, both now and forever. Amen.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. in Akron from 10am -12:30pm with a funeral service at 12:30pm. A private interment will be held at a later date.
