Edgar W. "Wally" Wood
Following a courageous 5-year battle with lung disease, Edgar W. "Wally" Wood, 74, passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 53 years, Margie, by his side on Saturday, July 16, 2005 and entered into Heaven to be with his Heavenly Father. Wally was born in Uniontown, PA on December 3, 1930. Edgar retired in 1986 from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. qith over 40 years of service. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 aboard the SS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier. He enjoyed traveling the United States with Margie in their Winnebago. Edgar was a lifetime member of the Airport VFW Post, Tadmor Shrine, Amos Englebreck Masonic Lodge #751, and W.I.T. (Winnebago) Club. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert & Beatrice Wood; sister, Delores Kurtz; brother, Jack Wood. He was a loving father to his daughter, Laura (Ben) de Forest and son, James (Christina) Wood. Edgar was a proud grandfather of Ben, Brad, & Kendall. He is also survived by his brother, Dick Wood. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. where a Masonic service will be conducted by Amos Englebreck Lodge #751 at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Akron Hospice of Summa, St. Thomas Hospital, 444 North Main Street, P.O. Box 2090, Akron, OH 44309-2090.
