Edith L. Butler passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born on September 20, 1929, in Grantsville, WV to the late Howard and Virginia Waldo Buckner. After Edith finished grade school, the family moved to Akron Ohio in the 1940’s, where she attended and graduated from East High School. She married the love her life, the late Orin (Bud) Butler on November 7, 1947. They were married 54 years. Edith is survived by one son, Gregory Alan, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends. The family were long time members of the East Market Street Church of God. Due to Bud’s health, they moved to the Chattanooga, TN area and attended East Chattanooga Church of God. Edith returned to Akron in 2007.
Edith was a devoted Sunday school teacher who shared her knowledge and love for the Scriptures in the Akron and Chattanooga churches. She was a woman of great faith and touched the lives of many through her unwavering commitment to her God and Savior, Jesus Christ. In her later years, she led Bible studies in her apartment complex. Edith was known for her loving and caring nature, and she was a loyal friend to those she encountered. Her ability to listen and provide support made her a friend to many. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved poetry and left the following words for her family and friends:
Think of stepping on shoreAnd finding it heavenOf taking hold of a handAnd finding it God’s…Of waking up well and happyAnd finding it home!

A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the East Market Church, 2084 East Market Street, Akron, OH, officiated by Rev. Jake Nelson and Rev. Rick Fuson.
