Edith Jewell George, age 87, of Akron, Ohio, died on August 23, 2017 at ManorCare of Barberton. She was born on October 30, 1929 in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late Herman C. and Beulah S. (Huffer) Flowers. She grew up in Livingston, TN. Edith spent many years working in the rubber industry for Goodyear, BF Goodrich, and Monarch Rubber. She enjoyed fishing and camping with her family and was an excellent cook. She was a member of the Brimfield Church of Christ.
Survivors include her two sons, Gary W. (Cherie) George of Punta Gorda, FL and Gregory L. (Sue) George of Akron; one granddaughter, Stacey L. George of Diamond; two great-grandchildren, Joseph M. Williams and Ashleigh L. Williams; sister, Fay Elias; and brothers, Herman "Rod" Flowers and Richard (Joyce) Flowers.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Carl George; brother, Harold (Rudy) Flowers; and sisters, Helen Buterbaugh, Edress "Elsie" Belvin, and Benny "Lucy" Kaelin. The family wishes to thank ManorCare of Barberton and Crossroads Hospice for the loving, personal care given to Edith.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 10-12 followed by a 12 noon funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Hospice.
