Edmund Dwight Poling, Sr., 89, of Tallmadge, passed away March 26, 2010. Edmund was born July 19, 1920 in Barbour County, West Virginia to the late Dellett and Zella Poling. Edmund graduated from Philippi High School where he was a star athlete in football. After graduating, Edmund joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years in the Pacific during World War II. He married Evelyn Wilt and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. He retired from Sears Roebuck after 28 years of service. In his free time, he was an avid outdoorsman, RV enthusiast, gardener, and enjoyed spending time with his family. During his life, he recognized his West Virginia heritage. Edmund was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn. He will be deeply missed by his son, Edmund Poling, Jr. of Akron; brother, Kenneth Poling of North Olmstead; granddaughter, Carly Poling of Atwater; and daughter, Diana Pesuit of Lake Placid, NY. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday, April 1st from 3-4 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity benefitting the needy.
