Edna A. Stumpf

Edna A. Stumpf, 100, passed away on August 12, 2006. Born in Ritzville, Washington, on June 23, 1906 to the late Henry and Magdelena Richter, the oldest of 7 children. Her parents were farmers in Canada, and the children had to work out in the fields. At age 16 she left home and went to work doing house cleaning to support the family. On December 14, 1928 she married Louis Stumpf while he was in the Navy and they lived in Hawaii where she worked for the Naval Officers in their homes. In 1950 they moved to Akron from Sunnyvale California. Edna was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church. Her memberships included: American Legion Auxiliary #209 for 41 years; Ne Hta Chapter Eastern Star #500 for over 50 years; Pythian Sisters #463 for 46 years; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Goodwill Industries; AARP for 37 years; and Fleet Reserve Association. Edna recently celebrated her 100th birthday with her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We love you! In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by husband Louis in 1988 and son-in-law Daniel in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Edward, Walter, and Harold; and sisters Anne and Alvera. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Puraty, with whom she resided; granddaughters Patricia (John) White and Denise (Ken) Butler; great-grandchildren Justin, Danielle, and Katelyn White, and Courtney and Kaylee Fox, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her loving brother and sister-in-law Albert and Lois Richter of Sitka, Alaska; special nephews Arthur Stumpf of Denver, Colorado, Harry Paul Stumpf of Albequerque, New Mexico; and many special friends. A special thank you to Dr. Charles Pratt and staff for the care given to Edna over the last 20 years and the staff at City Hospital, 5th floor East for their kindness. Funeral service will be held Monday, August 21, 2006, 11 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Rev. Anne Chaffman officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. Calling hours will be Sunday, 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m. and an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
