Edward J. Conti
Edward J. Conti, 79, of Akron, passed away August 27, 2008. Edward served in the U.S. Army with Company K 5th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He served two terms, ending in 1952. On April 3, 1951, Edward was injured in combat one mile north of the 38th Parallel. He was delivered to safety from the hill through his own sheer will and the aid of two medics. His military service earned him a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a disabled American veteran. Edward will always be remembered as a stubborn yet generous man. He enjoyed watching his children take care of his yard and looked forward to his Sunday visits with his granddaughters, Nicole, Jessica, and Lisa. He loved and looked up to his older brother Steve all his life. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Matilda Conti; wife, Mariam Louisa Conti; brother, Steve Conti; and stepdaughter, Denae Sargent. He will be deeply missed by his children, Edward John Conti, Jr., John Louis Conti, Patrick Allen (Kim) Conti, Nicholas John (Mary) Conti, Noreen Smith, and John Edward (Andrea) Conti; stepchildren, Charles Clyde (Bonnie) Weakland, Rita Mae Cross, Michael Gregory Weakland, Dorothy Paxton, and Charlotte (Keith) Hinds; grandchildren, Karen Conti, Sherry Conti, Matthew Conti, Nicole (Denny) Holodnak, Jessica Conti, Lisa Conti, Zachary Conti, and Anthony Conti; many stepgrandchildren, relatives, and friends. Family and friends may call Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N.Canton Rd. Prayers will be held TUESDAY at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Akron. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DAVA #35 Auxiliary, 690 W. Waterloo Rd., Akron.
