Our granddaughter now has her very own guardian angel.
After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Edward, 60, peacefully passed away Jan. 16, 2021, at home with his family.
Edward was born in Barberton on March 19, 1960 and lived in Akron for most of his life. He graduated from Coventry High School. After completing the carpentry apprenticeship program, he made a career as a union carpenter for more than 30 years until retiring in 2009. Ed continued his trade even in retirement by helping family and friends improve their homes, as well as offering some much-needed advice and guidance to others on their projects.
Outside of his family and carpentry, Ed had a passion for military history and collecting its memorabilia.
Edward is survived by his wife of more than 34 years, Lisa Machek; children, Leah Mary Haidet (Ryan), Edward Joseph Machek, Jr.; granddaughter, and light of his life, Dylan May Haidet - or as grandpa called her, "Do-no-wrong Dylan." He is also survived by his siblings Michaeline Buffington, Joseph Machek (Bonita), Elaine McMillen, David Machek as well as many much-loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Machek; sisters, Mary Buccigrossi and Paulette Machek; brother, Daniel Machek.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 2-4 followed by a 4:00 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Summa Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Edward's name.
