Edward "PAPA" Martin
Edward Martin, of Springfield Township at the age of 90, went home to his maker on November 5 . He and his twin were born on July 3, 1915 in McMenville TN. He was raised in Huntsville, AL and lived in the Akron area for the past 62 years. He was employed with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 38 years. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and George Ann Martin of Alabama; sisters Mae, Edna and Nellie; brothers Jim (twin), John, Ray, Sam,and Noel all of Alabama. He is survuved by his loving wife of 67 years Nannie; together they brought into this world five daughters Carolyn Nelson , Mary Wiedie , and Catherine Morgan (Jerrell) all of Akron, Rose Waddell (Glenn) of WI, and Alma Weber (Donald) of IL; Edward was a proud, loving grandfather of 14, great grandfather of 19, and great-great grandfather of 9; and many nieces, nephews and Buddy. Edward was known as "PAPA" to all who knew and loved him. Edward loved to play the harmonica and guitar. He loved going to church and singing the old songs. He was a faithful Cleveland Indians fan all his life. He enjoyed walking, gardening and carpentry work. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their thanks to the Passport Program, Northeast Professional Home Care and Summa Hospice for their excellent love and care, especially Debbie, Rhonda, Tammi, Pat, Derek, Darrell, Donna, Michelle, Lori, Krista, Angie, Tom, Joe and Vicki. What words can we say that would describe the life of someone we all respected and loved. What words could possibly express how deeply he will be missed. We take comfort in knowing that our beloved husband and father is free from pain and suffering and is surrounded by Jesus' everlasting love in a place that is so magnificent anyone who knew him always described him as a loving and kind man. He was a wonderful example of what all his children should hope to be. The family suggests contributions to be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or his surviving wife. Family will receive friends at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, from 5-8 PM on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the Christ Community Church, 2445 S Arlington Rd, at 11 AM. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
