Eileen Gertrude (App) Jenkins joined her husband, Robert Jenkins, in Heaven on January 25, 2021 after 101 years on Earth.
She was born in Akron on August 26, 1919 to Robert and Florence (Limric) App.
Eileen lived life to the fullest, including being the first Homecoming Queen at Springfield High School and trumpet virtuoso in Summit County's popular all-woman band, the Co-Eds. During WWII she worked at the Goodyear Aircraft hangar making blimps for the war effort. She was politically active and worked for many years in polling booths during elections. She also operated an independent driver's license office.
Eileen and Robert raised their 3 children in Springfield Township, growing fruits, berries and vegetables. Eileen was known for her baking and desserts. In her sixties, Eileen took up painting and became an accomplished ceramics artist.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Jenkins; brother Robert App; daughter Karen Fergus; grandson James R. Jenkins and great-granddaughter Christina (Sammons) Sommers.
She will be remembered fondly by her sons Larry (Mary Thompson) Jenkins and James D. (Terri) Jenkins; grandchildren Pam (Tony) Thorne; Judi (Dave) Sammons; Deanna (Dan) Rummell; and Denise (Tyler) Hudak; 11 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A private family ceremony was held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Springfield Church of the Brethren in her name.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
