Eleanor May (nee Appleby, Shenise)

Eleanor May , 82, passed away October 6, 2006. Eleanor was born November 7, 1923 in Madison, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Mary Appleby (Baughman). She lived most of her life in the Ellet area, moving to Akron in 1929. She was employed for 26 years in retail management with Spartan Dept. Stores, Gold Circle, and Fisher Big Wheel. In 1961 she was the first woman to be placed in a management position at Spartans. Preceded in death by husband, Edward Harold Shenise to whom she was married for 45 years. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Marston May, to whom she was married for 16 years, in 2005; brother, Russell Appleby in 1983 and sister, LaVerne Baughman in 1998. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Bonnie) Shenise and Robert Shenise (Robyn); daughters, Sandy (Larry) Benedum of Willcox, AZ and Marsha Shenise of Akron; grandchildren, Larry Jr. and Lori Benedum, Larry Edward Shenise and Michael Shenise, Julie and Steve Harding, Courtenay and Amanda Shenise, and Victoria Dobbins; great-grandchildren, Larry Benedum III and Shaun E. Benedum; special cousins, Evelyn and Mildred Baughman of Junette, PA; special friends and neighbors, Paul and Michelle Keller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 p.m. with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
