Elizabeth Thalman

September 27, 1925 — March 29, 2024

Elizabeth Thalman "Liz, Lizzy, Betty", 98, of Akron, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 27, 1925, the daughter of John and Barbara Geiger of Mogadore, Ohio. She worked hard as a farmer at the family farms in Mogadore and then in Randolph. She met her husband Fred at the Akron Farmers Market and after they married in 1949, farmed alongside him at his family farm in Richfield, Ohio until the farm was sold in the early 1970s. Elizabeth continued to do urban farming at her homes in Bath and Akron until her 80s. She was well known for growing the best green beans and tomatoes, which she sold at local flea markets. She loved baking and cooking for her family and attending family celebrations. Elizabeth had a lifetime love of Polka Music and dancing which was passed on from her father, who played with the Schnitzler's Polka Band while she was growing up. In her 70s, she had many adventures with her special friend, George Strelow, as they camped and traveled all over the country. She loved taking pictures and sending postcards to family during these trips. She also loved taking pictures at family events and sending greeting cards with pictures and her special notes. Elizabeth's favorite pastime was playing 500 Rummy with George and her family. She said playing cards was good for her mind, it put a sparkle in her eyes, and brought her so much joy. She will be missed by many and will always be remembered for her strength, love, kindness, smile and laughter.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Thalman; beloved son Charlie Thalman; siblings John Geiger, Henry Geiger, Conrad Geiger, and Barbara Booher; and special friend George Strelow.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving daughters Kathy Thalman, Judy (Jim) Bonner, and Cindy (Hayden) Porter; daughter-in-law Nancy Thalman, grandchildren Cora, Ron, Angel, Katie, and Megan; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Phillip Geiger; sister-in-law Grace Geiger, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
