Elmer Poor, beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on August 24, 2013 with his family by his side.
Elmer was born on May 16, 1927 along with his twin brother, John. It must be noted that the brothers were born on the same day and died on the same day, 59 years apart. He was a graduate of Springfield High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Doris (nee Cheek). They were together for 39 years. After serving his country in the Coast Guard, he graduated from Kent State University where he was a member of Phi Tau fraternity. Elmer worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 41 years until his retirement in 1986. In his spare time, he loved to cook and garden. He enjoyed perfecting the Hungarian family sausage recipe with his brother Ernie and the rest of the family. He was a proud volunteer for many years at Goodyear Wingfoot Park.
Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris; his mother, Elizabeth; and brothers, Ernest and John Poor. He is survived by his children, Dennis, Luanne Daigneault, Janis (John) Melendez, and Regina (John) Swihart; grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Alex, Chris, Greg, Carl, Matthew, and Megan; and his special friend, Nina McBride.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Altercare and Pebble Creek. A special thanks to Tina and Danielle from Aseracare Hospice.
