Emma Jo Eplin, 83, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2019. Emma Jo was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 11, 1935 (or as she told everyone, 1936) to the late Clarence and Eula Jo Coleman. She worked at the State Capital building in Charleston prior to her marriage. She was a longtime member of the Ellet Community Church of God.
Emma Jo was a committed mother and wife. She often would walk twice a day to spend time with her infant, eldest son, Mark, while he was convalescing in the hospital for over 19 months. In later years, she took care of her husband and son through their many health issues.
Emma Jo's favorite activities were walking, spending time outside, and visiting and talking with people. She loved when people came to visit her on her porch, and spent many hours on the phone in lengthy conversation. She spent over 50 years exchanging a letter a day with her best friend, Reba. She loved April Fools Day and took great pride in being the first prankster of the day. Emma Jo loved hamburgers and root beer stands, but above all, she cherished her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Emma Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Arthur Eplin; son, Mark Eplin; and brother, Andrew Coleman.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Matthew (Carlene) Eplin; sister, Tina (Chuck) Ross; grandchildren, Carissa and Christian Eplin; and many church friends, close neighbors, and a whole network of friends in Ellet.
Friends and family may call on Monday January 21, 2019 from 11am until 1pm at Newcomer 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will take place at 1pm officiated by Pastor Mitch Martin. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
