Erik Lamont Thornton Sr.

Erik Lamont Thornton Sr. "Ricky" was born to the union of Adolph and Evelyn (Winn) Thornton in Akron, Ohio on February 7, 1959. He worked for the City of Akron for 34 years. He was a very beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He was a member of The House of the Lord Church and a former member of Lebanon Baptist Church. Erik fellowshipped with various churches in the Akron area. Words can't begin to describe the many talents and gifts the Lord entrusted him. His most sincere desire was to please and help others, praise and glorify God through his son Jesus Christ for all that he's done for him in bringing him through many great tests and trials.

Erik was preceded in death by his father, Adolph Thornton; mother, Evelyn Winn Thornton; grandson Tyrone L. Rushin. He will be sadly missed by his wife Kathleen; children, Dana Thornton, Erica (Ray) Hammon, Sharie Thornton, Terrika Thornton, Jerrika Thornton, Lovetta Thornton, Erik Jones and Cynthia Thornton; plus a host of grandchildren; siblings, Charlotte Cornelius, Kirk Thornton, Duane Thornton, Adolph Thornton Jr., Anthony Thornton, Charlene Thornton.

Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Mount Peace Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Thornton Family and can be sent to Newcomer Funeral Home.
