Erma Naomi (Somerville) Grant, 94, of Akron, Ohio passed peacefully into eternity February 28, 2022. She was born
May 13, 1927 to Clarence J. and Sylvia M. (Brothers) Somerville in Cherry Tree, Pennsylvania. She was the fourth child and first daughter of their twelve children.
After graduating from Cherry Tree High School, she moved to Akron where she met and married her husband, Paul T. Grant and raised her family.
She was a school crossing guard for Ritzman Elementary School at the intersection of Albrecht Avenue and Canton Road for 20 years.
She hosted holidays for the family where everyone was welcome and there was always an abundance of food. Christmas was her favorite and she will always be remembered for her homemade Eggnog, cookies, pies, cheese balls and sauerkraut balls.
A faithful member of the Ellet Grace Brethren Church for 70 years where she served in many areas. The Hospitality Committee was her favorite where she served funeral meals for countless families.
She supported the Haven of Rest since its founding and was very involved with the Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years, Paul; brothers, Cecil, Leroy, Larry and an infant brother; sisters, Doris, Rozella and Verna.
She is survived by her children, William Grant, Edward (Beverly) Grant and Mary Anne (Timothy) Redinger; grandchildren, Kara (Chris) Conine, Paul (Lisa) Grant, David (Carrie) Grant, Kellie (Matt) Kandel, Kristen (Brian) Wenner, Matthew (Rebekah) Redinger and Rachel Redinger and 19 great grandchildren. Erma is also survived by brother, Darl; sisters, Lois Morley, Violet (Dale) Lear and Phyllis Jean McAndrew; sister-in-laws, Janet Somerville, Everyl Wolfe and Nancy Grant; brother-in-law, Ralph Grant and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305.
Friends and family will be received beginning at 12:00pm and a celebration of Erma's life will be at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
