Ethel Mae Phillips, 79, of Tallmadge, passed away on June 7, 2021. She was born in Akron on April 12, 1942 to the late Gilbert and Nellie Fought. Mae grew up in North Hill while it was rural and had many fond memories of riding her horse, Chico in the woods for hours. She loved animals her entire life and was a mom to numerous cats and dogs over the years. Her most beloved dog was Nova.
Mae devoted herself to her Lord and her family. She raised her children in the Evangelical Congregational Church and spent over forty years volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, and choir member. It was through the ECC that she met her lifelong best friend, Deloris Jarvis. In more recent years, Mae joined New Hope in Tallmadge.
Mae loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with loved ones and particularly loved her trips to Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Mae will be truly missed by her loving children, Roger (Tami) Phillips, Sandra (Richard Duane) Schafer, and Amy (Matthew) Sandy; grandchildren, Vanessa (Derrick) Campbell, Adam (Allie) Phillips, Amanda (Gary) Stewart, Amy (Troy) Fiscus, Timothy Dzoch, Bryan Dzoch, KayLa Cummins, Cody (Victoria) Dzoch, Richard "Sly" Schafer, Shane Schafer, Melonie (Cory) Cummins, Marchae Phillips, and Mya Phillips; granddaughter-in-law, Rachel Dzoch; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kendall, Ella, Leyla, Emmalyse, Grayson, Makayla, Coralee, Madison, Lucas, MarLee, MaeLynn, Ayla, Topanga, Remi, Nina, and Magnolia. She also leaves her longtime companion, Robert Boyle.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 9:30-11 followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
On Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., friends and family are welcome to gather at New Hope, 226 Southeast Ave in Tallmadge for continued fellowship and music. A lantern and balloon release will take place at sundown. Please bring a lawn chair and your favorite memories of Mae.
