Gene E. Stern, 86, passed away surrounded by his family on April 22, 2008. He was born on May 15, 1921 in Somerset PA. Gene retired from Lee Way Freight Co. and he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite; parents, Norman & Lucinda; brothers, Roy and Luther; sisters, Louella and Beatrice. Gene is survived by his daughters, Sandra Crews, Pat Hunsicker (Gary), Pam Jarvis (Jerry) and Jacqueline Ludle (Chris); son, James LaDow (Judy); 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Victoria. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sam Rittenour officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his second home, Pebble Creek ("thank you girls for taking care of our dad").
