Eugene J. "Irish" Kerrigan, 91, passed away January 12, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New York City, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Irish was a member of St. Matthew's Church, VFW Airport Post, and Retired Teamsters Local #24. Preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Kerrigan; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, June (nee Bedard); daughter, Betsy (Bob) Hayward of MD; son, Mike (Yvonne), Sr. of Randolph Twp; grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Kerrigan, Jr. of MD and Melissa Kerrigan of Alliance; sister-in-law, Jane Bedard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 15, from 5 to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where a prayer service will be held Saturday, January 16, at 9:15 am followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at St. Matthew's Church in Akron. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Randolph Twp.
