Evelyn Lucille Poling
Evelyn Lucille Poling, 85, of Tallmadge, passed away August 14, 2009. Evelyn was born in Barbour County, West Virginia on October 23, 1923 to the late Roy and Jessie Wilt. Growing up in Appalachia during the Depression, Evelyn learned to be industrious, creative, and thrifty and maintained these skills throughout her life. She worked as a telephone operator in Washington D.C. during World War II and later ran a beauty salon in her home. She also served on the Barberton City Hospital Women's Auxilliary Board. She was a talented seamstress, an accomplished oil painter, and had an interest in vintage clothing and fabrics. Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Mitchell and brother, Bill Wilt. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Edmund Poling, Sr.; daughter, Diana (Gary) Pesuit of Lake Placid, NY; son, Edmund Poling, Jr. of Akron; sister, Betty Sumbrow of Knoxville, TN; and granddaughter, Carly Poling. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Thursday, August 20th from 6-7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Per Evelyn's request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity benefitting the needy.
