Felicia "Lee" Ely, 89, of Akron, passed away June 29, 2012. She was born in Neffs, OH on February 28, 1923 to the late Frank and Kay Astemborski.
Lee, who never drove a car, spent her life loving infants by knitting caps and booties for the Akron Children's Hospital NICU. She loved bird watching, nature, crocheting, reading, gardening, baking, and watching the Indians beat the NY Yankees, but most of all, spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Alvis; grandson, Jay; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Betty Astemborski; brother-in-law, Don Cutlip.
Lee is survived by her children, James Jr., Micki (Bob) Robinson, Mary (Arden) Scholles, Pat McLain, Rick (Shelley) and Kitty (Gary) Taylor; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank Jr. and Boyd Astemborski; sister, Theresa Cutlip; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Lee's dear friends from The Villa at Marian Park for making her life so rich and full in her later years.
Family and friends may call on Monday, July 2 from 5-8 PM at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a Rosary Service will be held at 5:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, July 3, 10 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Ralph Thomas presiding.
In lieu of flowers, because of Lee's love for fragile infants, please make memorial contributions to Akron Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
