Florence Thompson, 94, of Uniontown, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023, while a resident of Windsor Medical Center in North Canton, OH.
Born March 9, 1929, in Brookville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George and Ethel (Geist) Butler.
On February 17, 1947, she married Harold Thompson. Harold passed away on February 14, 2020, several days prior to their 73rd wedding anniversary. Early in their marriage, Florence worked 8 ½ years as a welder for Sylvania Radio & TV Tube plant in Brookville, PA. In August 1968, the Thompson family settled in Uniontown. Harold and Florence were members of the United Methodist Church of Uniontown.
A loving wife and mother, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Earlier in her life, Florence loved playing piano, crocheting of all types and styles, beading, and most craftwork for all seasons. Pinecone wreaths were dear to her. One of her passions was genealogy and she enjoyed attending family reunions and sharing her research with relatives. She traveled to many states in search of solving the mystery of our family history.
Survivors include her daughter, Louetta Suroiu; sons Harold and Kevin Thompson; four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, (infant) Edna Butler and Ruth (Butler) Myers; and her daughter, Ramona (Thompson) Martin.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 North Canton Road, Akron, OH 44305. A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 12:00 pm in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Knoxdale, PA.
