Frances Louise Lewis
February 7, 1925 — December 15, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Frances Louise Lewis, age 92, of Akron, in the comforts of her home on Friday, December 15, 2017. Frances passed with the same dignity and grace that she had known throughout her life.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Lewis, her daughter Irene Snyder, and niece, Heather Nees. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Ann Ferrell, nieces and nephews, sisters, Mary Tahir and Peggy Glasgow, and sons-in-law, Lance Snyder and Russell Ferrell.
Frances chose a rewarding career in education and retired from the Akron Public Schools, Teacher Emeritus after 30 years. Upon retirement, she was a volunteer tutor in reading, history and language arts. She also wrote for American Greetings in Cleveland and for ABC News Cleveland affiliate creating public service announcements and "filler" copy.
Frances loved to read and greatly appreciated a well-crafted sentence, paragraph or book. She enjoyed traveling with family and hosted many family gatherings at her home including Christmas every year. A long time member of the Akron Woman's City Club, Frances enjoyed a wealth of friends who had common interests.
The way she lived her life set an example of strength and hope for many. Frances gave her all without expecting anything in return. She was genuine, loved and held strong values. She was known for her compassion, her wit, her friendly gracious nature and love of life. She was a devoted Christian and an active member in her church, Family of Faith United Methodist. She was especially close to her Wednesday morning Bible study with the senior ladies.
The family would like to express a special thank you to dear friend and caregiver Janeane, who brought much joy and kindness to Frances and to the family. We also wanted to acknowledge caregiver Barbie who was with Mom those precious last few months.
A celebration of Frances Louise's life will be held on January 20, 2018 at Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E. Market St., Akron, Ohio at 11a.m. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. All are invited to a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall following service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be directed to Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44305.
