Francis J. Sutter, Jr. 79 of Akron passed away peacefully at Akron City Hospital with his family by his side on December 27, 2011. He was born on March 3, 1932 in Olean, NY to the late Francis Sr. and Thelma (Neitz) Sutter.
Frank served in the US Navy in the Korean Conflict on the USS Montrose. After returning from the war he returned back to work at RCA Rubber Company where he continued to work for 44 years retiring in 1994. He was also employed by Firestone Park Community Center until 2006. Frank was devoted to all Children Sports Programs, inducted into the O.H. Somers Hall of Fame in 1976 for his dedication to Mogadore sports. In Firestone Park he helped start the youth basketball program were he served as director and coach for many years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Rose, sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Joe Lolich; sister, Wilma McGowan, son-in-law, Tom Hagerman, Jr.
Frank is survived by his daughters, Ruth Ann (Greg Francis) Hagerman, Toni Lutz, Carmen Cannon, Cora (John) Samaco; son, Jay (Julie) Sutter; sister, Barbara (David) Meadows; brother-in-law, Jim McGowan; grandchildren, Bruce, Justine, Jayson, Katie, Renee, Chris, Steven, Bret, Sarah, and Samantha; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and two very special friends Bobby and Marge Ray.
Family and friends may call on Monday January 2 from 6-8 PM at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday January 3 at 10 AM at Visitation of Mary Church (formerly Annunciation Church) with Fr. Jonathan Zingales officiating. Prayers will begin prior to the funeral mass at 9:30 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in c/o the funeral home.
