Frank L. Layman, 80, Coventry Twp, passed away on April 12, 2021 from complications of COPD. Born in Huntington, WV on Nov. 24th 1940 to John Q. and Virginia Hatton Layman, his family moved to Akron, OH in the 1940's where he grew up in Manchester and Green. He graduated from Green High School in 1958, entered the Army and was stationed in Germany and then Ft. Knox KY. There he met and married the love of his life, W. Jean Elrod. They were married 51 years before her passing in 2016. He worked at General Tire until their closing, then Ohio Pure Foods until his retirement in 2002. In his younger years he (and mom) were avid golfers and bowlers, partying with their friends from the N. Canton Eagles, Aerie 2223, where he was a 50 year member. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing poker and playing the ponies.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother John, sister Betty, his wife, W. Jean Elrod, his daughter, Donna Pittinger. He leaves to celebrate his life, his daughters - Suzan Sharp (Jeff) of Uniontown, OH, Cathy Doerman of Navarre, OH. His grandchildren- Jeffrey Sharp (Stephanie) of N. Canton, OH, Christopher Sharp (James) of Vienna, OH. Michael Doerman (Jacque) of East Peoria, IL, Heather Bruckelmyer (Jason) of Portage Lakes, OH, Carl PIttinger (Kendra) of Fountain, CO, Danielle Doerman of Navarre, OH. Son-in-law - Carl Pittinger of Akron, OH. Great grandchildren - Kaitlyn, Kayla Doerman, Samuel Bruckelmyer, Madelynn, McKinley Doerman, Alyssia, Alexsis Hall (Pittinger).
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life at the N. Canton Eagles Aerie 2223 1pm on Saturday April 17th. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family asks that donations be made to Summa Hospice.
