Fred Cowart-Shealey, 83, passed away July 30, 2019 in Akron, Ohio with his daughters Felicia and Jennifer by his side. Born in Alexander City, Alabama to Norman and Minnie Lee (Cowart) Shealey, he was an Akron area resident most of his adult life. Fred was a U. S. Army Veteran. He initially worked at Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, later retiring and working as a cab driver for Yellow Cab. He also worked as a welder. Fred enjoyed watching the Browns and Indians, playing the lottery, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter, MaShonda Shealey-Rice; sisters, Dorothy, Marlene, Rhonda. He will be sadly missed by daughters, Felicia (Derric) Miller, Jennifer (Steven) Mitchell, Joyce Cowart; sons, Frederick Lundy, Fred Shealey, Jr., Stephon Shealey, Shawndell Shealey; step-daughters, Cathy Walker, Shantel Smith-Clark, Kim Lundy; step-sons, Terry and Robert Smith; 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Laura (Lorance), Gloria, Lola, Louise (A.D.); brothers, James (Victoria), Tom (Carol), Oscar, Feodis (Nicole); many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank both Heather Knoll and Summa Hospice Care for their loving care of our father, Fred.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, August 9, 2019 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Evangelist, Lola Slaughter officiating. Those who wish may make donations and send condolences in Fred's name to the family.
