Fred P. Simon 90, a resident of Goodyear Heights, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 10, 2017.
He was born in the Philippines in 1927, son of Melecio and Lucrecia (nee Palattao) Simon. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering at the Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila and worked for Reynolds Aluminum for several years.
He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and became a naturalized US citizen. In 1974 his wife and five young children joined him and after a short stay in Gallipolis, Ohio went on to live in Akron for the next 42 years. He worked for UC Industries from 1978 until his retirement in 1992.
In his spare time Fred enjoyed "tinkering" in his garage, building, repairing and jerry rigging sundry household, carpentry and automotive work. He was always ready to help his children in their times of need from picking up a grandchild from school to fixing that annoying leak under the sink.
He was an avid Cavaliers follower and a long suffering Browns fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Florence.
Beloved father of his children Mel, Ferdinand, Felda, Florante and Frank (Djeck).
Fred was extremely proud of his grandchildren Cassie Simon, Andrew Simon, Joseph Strongoli, Rachel Strongoli, and Christian Simon.
Survived by loving siblings Isabela Simon, Trinidad Santa Ana, Dr. Mel P. Simon (Lydia), Remy Simon and Lib P. Simon (Carrie).
Family will receive friends on Friday, October 13th, from 4 to 8 pm with funeral service the following day Saturday, October 14th at 11 am.
