Gary J. Boarman, 74, of Akron, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 5, 2020 after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Mary R. Davison and his father, Joseph L. Boarman. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Brenda (Stover); children, Denise Boarman (fiancé, Scott Holland), Robert Boarman (wife, Kim), and Amanda Wegner (husband, Brad); sisters, Donna Boarman (Dave), Linda Boarman (Dave), and Judy Thompson (Jerry); grandchildren, Matthew Hathaway (Libby), Luke Hathaway (Sommer), Brooke Kurtz (Brock), Joshua Boarman (Kyleigh), Joseph Boarman, Bradley Wegner, Jr, Andrew Wegner; great grandchildren, Maximus Burns, Peyton Hathaway, Magnus Hathaway; and many special in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Gary proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1966 on the Robert L. Wilson Destroyer. He retired from Cement Masons Local 109, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved to go to his cabin in southern Ohio that he built with his own hands. He enjoyed golfing, cooking, canning, and tending his garden. Gary had a quick wit and never forgot a good joke. He had the best sense of humor, and was always making those around him laugh.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center for the loving care they showed for Gary and his family.
