Gary David Hawk

Gary David Hawk, 66, of Akron, passed away on February 18, 2016. He was born in Canton, OH on January 19, 1950 to the late Dale and Gwendolyn Hawk. Gary was a 1968 graduate of Ellet High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army 25th Infantry, earning both a Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam. He retired from Summit County Environmental Services. Gary was a lifelong athlete. In his youth he enjoyed swimming at the East YMCA. As an adult, he was an avid runner. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pauline and sister, Cathy Dix. He will be deeply missed by his son, Derek Hawk; stepchildren, Robert (Julie) Biggs and Stephanie Kashnier; sister, Carol (Glynn) Hooks of Byron, GA; eight grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Cleo. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 5-7 followed by a 7:00 p.m. memorial service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
