We mourn the loss of a giant of a man, Gary Walter Gill, age 73, of Akron, Ohio, died on June 5, 2020 at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 17, 1946 in Akron, the son of the late Walter and Dorothy (nee Huston) Gill. Gary graduated from Hoban High School and proudly served in the US Navy. He was stationed on the USS Preston in the Vietnam War. "non sibi sed patriae" - "Not for Self but Country". He also retired from Yellow Freight Systems after 36 years of service as a dispatcher.
Gary lived life to the fullest. In his own words, "I had an incredibly good life with a few bumps along the way." Gary never met a stranger. He was talented with a quick wit, one of his favorite things was to make people laugh, and make up silly songs and sayings.
Preceded in death, other than his parents, was his brother, Leonard Gill.
Gary leaves behind to mourn his loss, his wife, the former Judy Alderman, whom he cherished and married on December 2, 1972; his beloved children, Eric (Rachael) Gill, Kimberly "Kim" (Scott) Humphrys, Lisa Gill and Jennifer "Jenny" Gill; his grandchildren, whom he loved to spoil, Drew, Emily, Ella and Cate; his sister, Sandy (Ed) Galford; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
All services are private due to Covid-19 and arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
