Gary L. Wears, 73, of Randolph, died unexpectedly but peacefully at home on November 27, 2024. He was born in Akron, Ohio on April 29, 1951 to the late Ermon and May Wears.
Gary worked as an electrician before serving three years in the U.S. Army. He then began his career as an operating engineer at the Chapel Hill Mall Power Plant. He retired after over 20 years of service and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 589.
Gary was a member of the Mogadore Moose 1082, having previously served as Treasurer. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved to sit around the campfire and sing with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta (Harold) Bragg; parents-in-law, Bill and Helen Ennemoser; brother-in-law, Don (Connie) Ennemoser; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hermann; and nephews, Joshua Hermann and Michael Ennemoser. Gary loved his dogs dearly, especially Clyde and Toby who also predeceased him.
Gary will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Debbie, with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on December 3rd. He also leaves his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Rochelle and Rich Cooper; sister, Sharon (Larry) Swartz and family; brother-in-law, Bob (Belinda) Ennemoser and family; brother-in-law, David (Cheryl) Hermann and family; aunt, Beverly Babb; granddaughter, Chellsea Cooper (Tyler Ward); great-grandsons, Damien and Callum; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and close friends, Rodney Williams, Terry Golden, and Russ Roberts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., immediately followed by a 12:00 p.m. funeral service with Pastor Mark O'Donnell officiating at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
