Gene S. Whytsell
Gene Sherwood Whytsell went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2012. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Gene was born in Sutton, West Virginia on July 28, 1924.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ricie and Nannie; brothers, Carl and Glenn; and sisters, Genevieve, Edith and June.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna, children Jerry (Billie), Judy (David) Wilt, Fred (Peggy), Larry (Betty) and Paula (Dewey) Harrington. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He also had a very special relationship with his Brother and Sister-in-law Ed and June Hartman, and niece and nephew Debbie Fledder-Johann and Eddie Hartman. Gene and Anna moved from West Virgnia to Akron, Ohio in 1947. He retired from General Tire and Rubber Co. He enjoyed his retirement by being a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed gardening and yard work.
The family would like to thank the kind and dedicated workers from Hospice of Summa. Since Anna is a victim of Alzheimer's, the family is requesting donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter, 70 West Streetsboro Street, Hudson, Ohio 44236 (www.alz.org) in lieu of flowers. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 30, from 10 am to 12 pm at Temple Baptist Church 1212 Greensburg Rd, Green, 44232, phone (330)896-1969, with a service to follow 12 pm with Pastor Glenn Rogers officiating. Entombment at Hillside Memorial Park.
