On the afternoon of May 1, 2024, Gene Charles Thomas passed away unexpectedly at the age
of 67. Gene was born to Walter and Rose Thomas in Barberton, Ohio where he grew up and developed the love of baseball playing catcher for Barberton Schools. Gene went on to grow a love for golf, fishing, camping, and bowling all of which he passed along to his children Daniel, Vincent, and Nichole. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from University of Akron and spent most of his career dedicated to his work with Babcock and Wilcox.

During his time at B&W, Gene was able to develop a love for traveling where he visited all but two states and numerous countries across the world. His notable favorites that he loved talking about were Australia, Egypt, Indonesia, and Israel. Over his 20+ year career with B&W, he developed friendships with coworkers that lasted until his passing. He wanted to spread his love of traveling with his kids, and spent many summer vacations camping in Myrtle Beach, Denver, and Florida. After his retirement, Gene lived close to his siblings Marie and Patricia in Venice, Florida loving the warm weather from his condo. He was able to enjoy time at Disney World with his children or relaxing on the beach people-watching with a beer.
