George John Aleksin

George John Aleksin, 86, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2024. He was born in Akron on February 10, 1938 to the late John and Helen Aleksin. He was a longtime member of East Market Street Church of God and enjoyed fellowship opportunities, especially at the Men's Breakfasts. He worked for Goodwill Industries before joining the maintenance department for the City of Akron. He retired from the city after 25 years of service.
In his free time, he like to go fishing and watch his favorite television programs, including wrestling and the Young and the Restless. He also loved gardening, both at home and at church.
George will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary; son, Ernest Smith; sister, Debbie Aleksin of Florida; half-sister, Donna Lee; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Rick Fuson and Jake Nelson officiating at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
