George Arthur Neilsen "Joe", 71, of Akron, passed away at his home on Monday, May 14, 2012.
Joe was the son of the late George J. Neilsen and Evelyn I. (Oberlin) Neilsen. He leaves his companion and friend of more than 30 years, Marge Fetherson, of Tallmadge. In addition to his devoted companion, he leaves his sister, Patricia Ann (James) Goda, of San Clemente, CA. Joe also leaves his daughters, Kim Marie (James) Bantz, of Hartford City, IN, and Cynthia Jo (Mike) Ritch; grandchildren, James Bantz, III, Kendra (Radlie) Storer, Matthew Dolinar, and Michael Ritch; great-granddaughter, Kinley Storer; niece and nephew, Susan (Philip) Schofield and James Andrew (Angela) Goda; great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins. Joe enjoyed the company of many life-long friends.
An East High graduate, Joe was well known for his athletic ability, his sports record in high school baseball and his record of no-hitters. He participated in post high school baseball and received attention from minor league baseball scouts. Joe, like his father, was highly reputed in the Akron area tool and die making industry. Joe worked for several local area machine shops over the years. Finally, he worked for many years at Goodyear Aerospace/Loral Systems until retiring in 2009. All his life Joe was an avid sports fan; he followed all sports and liked to "talk the games". He became interested in travel and in the last 20 years he and Marge made several world-wide trips including one to Denmark, the country of his ancestors. Joe was truly loved by all of his family and friends. We will always miss him.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
