George Thomas Barnett

George Thomas Barnett, 79, passed away May 7, 2023 at home surrounded by his family after a 12 year battle with cancer. Born in Plymouth, Ohio to Carl and Mae (Kimberlin) Barnett, he resided in Akron, Ohio all of his adult life. He retired from Kenmore Construction Companies after 47 years of service. George was a member of Portage Lakes Eagles as well as the Orioles Nest #167. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his family.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Barnett, Mae Barnett Holbrook; step-father, Burnette Holbrook; brother, Jerry Barnett; infant son, David Thomas Barnett. He will be sadly missed by his loving partner of 40 years, Zita Nelson; children, Kathleen (Michael) Sims, Thomas (Trulee) Barnett; grandchildren, Jagger, Olivia, Jaylee, Jersey; close friends, Dana Bates, Tom Postak and many other fishing buddies.

The family is grateful for Dr. Marc Shapiro, Tara Plues and his Cleveland Clinic team for their loving care of George.

Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations in George's name to the charity of their choice.
