George L. Slaughter
George L. Slaughter, 87, of Akron, passed away January 2, 2008 at his residence. He was born March 10, 1920 in Edna, Pennsylvania to the late John C. & Lula (McCurdy) Slaughter. George proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania, the saw mill and trucking before moving to Ohio in 1951. George was the Founder and CEO of Slaughter Tire, Inc. He was a well respected business man in the community which he worked. Most of all, he loved his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Lou Slaughter. He is survived by his wife and companion of 41 years, Delores A. (Jones) Slaughter; daughters, Clara (Joe) Schaefer, Edith (Bill) Casselberry, Mary (Don) Burkett, Cindi Wolfarth, Georgiana (Vince) Miller, Mary (Chad) Llewellyn, Katee (Tom) Skinner; sons, Jim (Pat) Slaughter, Harold (Carol) Slaughter, Robert (Darlene) Slaughter, Richard (Linda) Slaughter, Clyde Tate and Ernest Tate; 44 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron where funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Abe officiating.
