George M. Shepherd, Jr., 70, passed away on January 26, 2010. George had served with the US Marine Corps from 1959-1962 and retired from Timet Metals in Toronto, OH after 40 years of service. George was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren and was a member of the Marine Corps Club in Weirton, WV. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carmen Spear and Daniel Shepherd. Survivors include daughter, Alayna (Christopher) Heilman; sons, George (Laura Farr) Shepherd, III, Michael (Cindy) Shepherd, and Brandon (Melanie) Shepherd; sisters Yvonne O'Brien and Joann Shepherd; brother, Samuel (Kathy) Shepherd; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 5, 2010, 11 a.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. To leave a special message for the family online, visit www.NewcomerAkron.com.
