George Thur
George Thur, 84, of Akron, passed away July 22, 2009. He was born in Senecaville, Ohio on May 13, 1925. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from General Tire. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler. George and his wife Florence were champion polka dancers and traveled to festivals across the country throughout their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Mary Thur; brothers, Mike and Andy; and sister, Ann. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Florence; brother, John (Joann) Thur; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Valerie Powell; nieces, Kande (Jeff) Greene, Jennifer (Ben) Powell-Campbell, and Allison Powell; great-nephew and great-niece, Nathan and Shelby Greene; and many other family and friends. Special thanks to the Boivin family for years of kindness. Family and friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
