Gerald F. Gates

Gerald F. Gates, 95, passed away on January 25, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1927, the son of the late Fred and Lura Gates. Gerald proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Coast Guard. He was a man of faith and was a member of Tallmadge Church of Christ. Gerald married his best friend and love of his life, Glenna (nee Southard), on May 15, 1948 in Maysville, Kentucky where she crossed the Ohio River Bridge to join her husband. He retired after many years of dedicated service from carpentry and was a member of Carpenter's Local Union #369 of Akron. In his early years he was an avid vegetable gardener. He also liked being outdoors and enjoyed fishing with friends and family. He had many accomplishments but his greatest was his love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Lola, Madelyn, William, Samuel, Paul, Heloise, and Kenny.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Glenna I. Gates; children Judy (Frank) Bianchi, Mark Gates, and Daniel Gates; grandchildren Brooke (Alan), Michael (Megan), Justin (Jessica), and Matthew; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Firth; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
