Gerald Lee Halman, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday March 1st, 2024. He was born November 18th, 1942 to Mary Susan Halman and Rexell Glenn Halman. He proudly served in the Navy from 1961-1965. He dedicated his work service by working at Goodyear for 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mary Halman; brothers, Eugene and Robert Halman; sister, Nancy Halman; sisters-in-law, Paula Legg and Dianna Baughman.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia of 58 years; sister, Paula Knippenburg; children, Terry (Craig) Kyser and Jerry (Becky) Halman; grandchildren, Cody (Ariel) Kyser, Cassidy (Randall) Baker, Zachary Halman, Kennedy (A.J.) Rodrigues; great-grandchildren, Remi Baker, Elena Kyser, Rex Baker, Ridge Baker; brothers-in-law, Mike Baughman and Anthony Molea (Nicki); and many special nieces and nephews. He also leaves two very special people, Jim and Nanci Bowen. Jerry and Jim were shipmates on the USS RUCHAMKIN in the United States Navy. Jerry proudly stood beside his friend as his best man on their wedding day.
His hobbies included: tinkering in his garage, toy restoration, NASCAR memorabilia, family genealogy, and sharing his legacy with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always kept busy with morning coffee at Farmer Boy, attending car shows with his 1947 Dodge pick up truck, and being an active member of the Army/Navy and Moose clubs.
Jerry was "just a kid from Sawyerwood" and very proud of it. He was passionate about improving the neighborhood and community in which he lived. He liked joking and giving people a hard time while leaving a smile on your face. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Kesler officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can me made to the Sawyerwood Global Methodist Church or to the Springfield Sparkles Inclusive Cheerleading Program.
