Gerald "Jerry" Huskey passed away on March 28, 2024, at the age of 80, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in January 1944 to beloved parents Bernie and Florence (Kortpeter). He grew up with his much-loved brothers Dick (Robin), Tom (Cheri), and Bob (Kim).
Jerry graduated from Central High School where he was high school sweethearts with Charlotte Russell. They were married in 1967 after seven years of dating. Before their marriage he was drafted by the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany. He was trained as a field medic and served with the 63rd Medical Helicopter Division. It was during this time that he also developed a love for flying. After his military service, he graduated from an electrician school and took several astronomy courses at the University of Akron. He spent a significant part of his career as a machinist working at several shops in the Akron area.
Jerry loved cars. He spent time at many race tracks over the years and had special memories of Watkins Glen. He was very knowledgeable about the history of many makes and models of cars and he was a great mechanic. He enjoyed driving his 1964 Pontiac Catalina on sunny days and spending time at local car shows. Jerry also loved Rock N Roll, plinking, boom booms, and hiking in the metro parks during the fall.
Jerry was very compassionate. He loved his family and friends very much. He was a wonderful father and very proud of his three sons, Michael (Barb), Dennis (Megan), and Steve (Shawna). There was never a dull moment growing up. Jerry was also blessed with five grandchildren (Jacqui, Tori, Kayla, Lauren, and Zach) and seven great-grandchildren (Draven, Kendra, Castor, Korbin, Cali, Presley, and Charlotte). Jerry also had many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and brother/sister-in-law that he loved very much.
Calling hours will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron on April 13th from 1 pm to 3 pm, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm.
Special thank you to Gina and Melissa from Summa Hospice, the remarkable men of the Mogadore Fire Department, and his caring neighbors (John and Mary, Mrs. Nagy, and Samantha).
