Gerald L. Allen "Jerry"
Gerald L. Allen "Jerry", 81, of Mogadore, died December 1, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Born Nov. 23, 1930, he was the second child of Henry and Blanche Allen of Glens Falls, New York. Gerald graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1949. After graduation, he joined the USAF and received training at Lackland AFB and Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. After training he was assigned to Dover AFB, Delaware during the Korean War. While there, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Mitchell. After being honorably discharged, Gerald attended Tri-State College, Indiana, and Suffolk University, Massachusetts, where he worked as a laboratory technician at Avco RAD during the day and attended classes at night. He graduated cum laude with a BS in Chemistry. Gerald was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Research Division, Akron, Ohio, until his retirement in 1996, after more than 25 years service. After retirement, he enjoyed working around his home, doing small house and car repairs, gardening, reading, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret; sons, David (Alyson), of Mogadore, and Mark (Joyce), of Barberton; and daughter, Amy, of Lancaster, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Bill and Harold, of Glens Falls, NY, Roger, of Clayton, North Carolina; and sisters, Norma (Allen) Calkins, of Auburn, NY, and Pat (Allen) Robichaud, of Glens Falls, NY.
