Gerald Earl Mafield

Gerald Earl "Sonny" Mafield, 89, of Tallmadge, passed away on December 11, 2023 at his home, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Akron, Gerald was born on December 28, 1933 to the late Charles and Bessie {Strawn} Mafield.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his sister Doris Mavromatis and brothers Gene and Raymond Mafield.
On August 18, 1962, Gerald married Lois {Powers} Mafield. She survives, along with their children Cheryl Kushner, Kari and Stephen Mafield; granddaughters, Tonya (Bruce) Robinson and Renae (Tommy Thapanangkun) Cleckner; great-granddaughter Mya Cleckner; great-great-grandson Maleek Cleckner.
Gerald was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge in August of 1953, he went on to earn his Bachelor's of Education from The University of Akron, and then his Master's from Kent State University, spending his career as a teacher with the Akron Public Schools until his retirement in the late '90s. He was a Boy Scout Master of Troops 85 and 31 for 35 years, and earned the Silver Beaver award, highest award for a Scoutmaster.
