Joan Ellis, 88, Akron, passed away August 8, 2013. She is now in Heaven with loved ones who went before her. Joan was born in Coshocton, Ohio on January 31, 1925 to the late John and Flossie Green. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1943 and retired from Arborgast after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Don; son, Robert Ellis; daughter, Rita McKee; son-in-law, Charles McKee; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Katie Green; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Jack Silver; and brother, Charles Green.
She will be deeply missed by her sister-in-law, Betty Ellis; daughter-in-law, Shela Ellis; grandchildren, Darrin (Jennifer) Ellis and Sherri Ellis (Jeff Anstine); great-grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Ellis; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan loved playing cards, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends. She always had a smile on her face and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She also had a wonderful laugh. Joan will always be remembered for strength despite difficult circumstances in her life. She was loving and kind and will be missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday August 14 from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, with an Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
