Gilbert "Gil" Stewart

Gilbert "Gil" Stewart, 77, passed away Dec. 11. Gil approached life with a devotion to people that extended far beyond family and friends. It seemed that Gil was always there to lend a helping hand or a kind smile. He loved to fish, but his passion was exploring. The backroads were his second home, meeting new friends at every turn. He didn't always remember names, but his name will never be forgotten. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and retired from the House of LaRose. Gil was presently employed at Ritzman Pharmacy. Gil was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; parents, John & Mary Ellen Stewart; and brothers, Paul, David and Bobby. He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Oney and Beverly Rebeck (Dave); sons, Tom and Jim (Judy); grandchildren, Bryan, Katy, Lauren, Colleen, Ericka, John, Breanna, Craig, Marie, Austin, Lexie and Aaron; great-grandchildren, Faith, DJ, Victoria and John; sister, Alberta Taft; and was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Childs & Williams Funeral Home, 96 State Route 7 S, Pierpont, OH, 44082 with visitation from 12 to 2 p.m. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Pierpont, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Akron Children's Hospital Grief Support Program or Ranken Jordan Pediatric Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
