Gilda Evelyn Shope

Gilda Evelyn Shope "Grandma Shope", age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at home with her granddaughter at her side. She was born in Akron on December 4, 1946 to Gilford Uden and Evelyn Myers. She attended South High School. Gilda spent many years working at Quickie Manufacturing, Walmart, and Akron General where she ultimately retired from in 2017.

Gilda is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Ronald Shope, who she has missed dearly since his passing in 2012. Her memory lives on through the person she held closest to her heart, her granddaughter, Stephanie Shope (Nathan Geer), as well as in the lives of close friends and family that she touched. Gilda and Stephanie had an unbreakable bond that will be cherished forever.

Gilda enjoyed the simple things. She liked watching the news, going out to eat, and backyard fires. She loved children and getting together with friends and family. Gilda was kind, stubborn, and had a great sense of humor. She loved the Lord.

Anyone who knew Gilda would say that she was selfless almost to a fault, always putting others before herself, from strangers to the closest of family members. She was incredibly thankful for any gesture, big or small. Her work ethic and mental fortitude rivaled that of the most fierce individuals. She left an unforgettable impression on those who were lucky enough to cross paths with her. She was an angel in human form.

Friends and family will gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. in Akron on Saturday, October 9 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm to celebrate Gilda's precious life. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. All are welcome to attend.
