Gladys Helene Scovern
Gladys Helene Scovern, 95, of Akron, died on October 13, 2005 at her residence. She was born in 1910 in Colebank, West Virginia as the second of 11 children to the late Lora Hester (White) & Franklin Colebank. She lived in the Ellet area of Akron for 75 years of her life and worked for the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. and the Akron Board of Education. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always had a kind word. Gladys opened her home to many family and friends in their time of need. She enjoyed every day she had through the years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Vince Scovern; 3 sisters; 5 brothers; and 1 grandson. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann McLaughlin of Akron and Barbara (John) Jacobson of Virginia; sons, Ray (Lenda) Scovern of Akron and James (Jill) Scovern of Mogadore; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale Colebank of West Virginia and Kenneth Colebank of Kentucky. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Church with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
