Glen C. Spurgeon
Glen Carl Spurgeon, 86, passed away on May 3, 2009. Glen was born in Auburn, WV to the late Glen W. and Mayme Spurgeon. He graduated from Pullman High School in Pullman, WV and attended Glenville State Teachers College and the University of Akron. Glen was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from Mohawk Rubber after 32 years of service. Glen served as secretary of URW Local #6 and Yokohama Retirees Club. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. He was a 25 year volunteer of the Summit County Historical Society where he served as a tour guide and took great care in tending to the grounds. Glen had a passion for gardening. He was happiest when he was digging in the dirt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elma. Survivors include his son Don (Mona) Hayhurst of Uniontown; sisters Marie (Warren) Arthur of Vienna, WV and Ruth Logue of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Larry Baldridge officiating.
